How smart are you? Nine traits for a successful hiring strategy

It isn’t easy being an Employer right now. Record low unemployment may be great for the local economy but it drains the pool of available talent that organisations need to fill their vacancies. This creates added pressure on Employers to rethink their existing Recruitment strategies and work out if their current approach is delivering the results it needs to be. Cue: smarter hiring.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), three-quarters (72%) of human resources professionals expect to see competition between Employers rise over the next couple of years. Yet in their haste to find ‘someone’ to fill their vacancies, too many Employers resort to so-called stopgap recruitment solutions.

More often than not, this leads to a costly mis-hire, which the CIPD states can cost businesses between £8,200-£12,000 per hire…hardly the results that were sought. So, what can Employers do about it – what does a smarter hiring strategy look like in practice?

This was the challenge we have sought to address with the publication of the Guide to Smarter Hiring.

What makes their hiring strategy so successful? What do they do that is so different to those Employers who struggle to find, attract and retain top talent?

Our analysis revealed nine core approaches that constitute a successful and smarter hiring strategy. These approaches are not revolutionary, nor do they demand a dramatic upheaval of any Recruitment strategies that already exist.
