Careers Advisor Responsibilities

This position will involve, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing face-to-face 1-2-1 and group careers advice and guidance to help people make informed decisions about their future employment possibilities
  • Providing local employment and educational information to enable clients in their job search
  • Using Zendesk and strong administration skills to update client information and allow tracking of their progress
  • Providing CV writing assistance and guidance on interview techniques
  • Attending job fairs and events and representing the organisation as an ambassador
  • Promoting the safeguarding and wellbeing of clients

Careers Advisor Rewards

You will receive 28 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 2 years’ service plus bank holidays and your birthday off. The pension is matched up to 10% of your salary.

Careers Advisor Experience

To be successful in this Careers Advisor role you will either be a trainee looking to gain a Level 4 or Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance and Development or you will be a qualified Careers Advisor looking for a new challenging opportunity. You will have exceptional and proven relationship building skills and as the ambassador for the charity, and the person at the initial stage of the careers guidance process, you will have excellent communication and people skills to build trust and gain commitment from the jobseekers. You will be determined and resilient with strong customer service skills and experience, and you must have demonstrable experience of working with adults in a paid-on results/ targeted environment. You will be organised with good time management skills and possess strong attention to detail and compliance awareness and excellent administration skills as you will be creating and updating CVs, for example and writing up action plans. You will have a good understanding of safeguarding as you will be supporting vulnerable adults and you must be confident speaking in one-to-one meetings and in group meetings to deliver the services of the role, primarily face-to-face but occasional virtual webinars as required. If you have worked within the employment/ recruitment sector it is highly desirable. A good understanding of local employment and educational provisions is required.

Level 3 qualification is essential such as A Level, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

A relevant qualification such as QCF Level 6 Careers Guidance and Development, NVQ Level 4 in Advice & Guidance, LDSS Plus QCF Level 6 Units 2, 3 & 6 or Dip. C.G/QCG or equivalent is highly desirable.

Location

This role is office-based in the Oxfordshire area with attendance at multiple office locations across the week. There is one day a week from home for administration tasks.  

This role is full-time, permanent. 37 hours per week. You must be able to get to the sites allocated to you and so ideally you will be able to drive with access to a car. Alternatively, you will be able to use public transport to reach the various locations as required.
