Assistant Accountant

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a hardworking and conscientious Assistant Accountant to assist with the management accounts for our not-for-profit client. Reporting to the Head of Finance and assisting key business stakeholders with the day-to-day accounts of the charity, this is a great opportunity for someone who is AAT Level 3 qualified, or part qualified CIMA or ACCA looking for the next step up in their career.

Assistant Accountant Responsibilities

Reporting to an supportive manager, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and weekly pay runs.
  • End to end management of the weekly banking and assistance with bank and balance reconciliations.
  • Managing and monitoring the spend of rent, utilities and petty cash.
  • Preparing, reviewing and accruals of monthly credit card transactions
  • Preparing and processing month-end recharge journals.
  • Assisting with payroll, processing timesheets, rectifying any errors and solving queries in a timely manner.
  • Using systems and Excel for reporting.

Assistant Accountant Experience

This is the perfect role for a conscientious, detail orientated person with a proactive approach and flexible work ethic. A self-starter you are able to work autonomously, yet collaborate with the wider team to achieve results within a timely manner, especially around month-end. You will have lots of involvement with the Finance team and other key stakeholders within the charity and must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. It is a busy role and you will be joining at an exciting time for the Finance team as they are undergoing some changes to their internal systems, therefore you must be comfortable with change and learning new systems, as well as having demonstrable experience of managing the operations of an accounting system. The team currently uses Sage 200 for their accounting and Paperless as their invoice platform, so experience with using these systems is highly desirable but not a requirement of the role. You will be given the necessary training during your onboarding period, however there is an expectation that you will have a good understanding of accounting, the duties and the importance of them to drive the charity’s success. Ideally you will be qualified to AAT L3 level or studying towards your ACCA or CIMA qualification. Reporting and reconciliation is a key responsibility within this role, therefore you are required to be proficient in the use of Excel and comfortable with formulas, pivot tables and using the VLOOKUP function. Previous payroll experience is not necessary, however experience with timesheet processing and solving payroll queries is an integral part of this role. Full training will be provided.

Location

OX4, Oxford

This is a full time, permanent hybrid working position, where you will be required to be in the office 3 days per week. Their working hours are 8am – 4pm or 9am – 5pm.

There is a parking space on site.

There will be a one stage, face to face interview which will involve a formal interview with the Finance team and a 20-minute Excel skills test prior to interview.

There will be a 6 month probationary period which is subject to your performance in role.
