Employment law in the spotlight: The results of our HR Hub poll in December 2022

The employment law landscape is an ever shifting one with new issues arising regularly to challenge employers and their busy HR teams.

Malcolm Gregory, head of employment at UK top 100 law firm, RWK Goodman, which has a large office in Oxford, provided his quarterly Employment Law Update at Allen Associates HR Hub in December.

The 83 employers and HR professionals from Oxfordshire and beyond who attended the webinar provided an insight into some of the issues they were experiencing via our live poll. The results are set out below.

1. In the last 12 months, how many Employment Tribunal claims have you received in your organisation (or your client’s organisation)?
  • 76% - None
  • 14% - 1 claim
  • 7% - 2 claims
  • 3% - 3+ claims
2. Are you considering redundancy or restructures within your organisation (or your client’s organisation) over the next 6 months?
  • 71% - No
  • 20% - Yes, under 20 employees affected
  • 7% - Yes, more than 20 but less than 100 employees affected
  • 2% - Yes, more than 100 employees affected
3. Does your organisation (or your client’s organisation) have a recognised trade union?
  • 75% - No
  • 5% - Not yet, but this may change
  • 14% - Yes, our relationship is great
  • 7% - Yes, they have threatened industrial action in the last 6 months
4. Are you confident that your organisation’s employees (or those of your client) are aware of what conduct may amount to sexual harassment?
  • 10% - Not confident at all
  • 75% - Moderately confident
  • 15% - Very confident
5. Is GDPR a continuing priority in your organisation (or your client’s organisation)?
  • 10% - No, it has fallen by the wayside
  • 58% - It is on the agenda but needs some work
  • 32% - Yes, it remains at the top of our agenda
