HR Hub Poll Results: What Employers Are Really Thinking About the Future of Work

Allen Associates, News & Blog

At our May 2025 HR Hub, hosted in partnership with RWK Goodman, we were joined by global workforce consultant and Future of Work activist Tom Hadley. In a compelling and thought-provoking session, Tom explored the mega-trends reshaping the world of work, the evolving mindset of the next generation, and how HR leaders can respond with purpose and agility.

Throughout the session, attendees took part in live polls to share their views on the challenges and changes they’re experiencing in their organisations. Here's a look at the key takeaways.

What’s Really Happening with the ‘Recruitment Revolution’?
We asked: What is your take on the so-called ‘recruitment revolution’?

  • 68% said “It’s on its way – I am seeing some changes to hiring procedures and criteria”
  • 17% said “It’s fake news – I’m not seeing significant changes”
  • 9% said “It’s already here – big changes are happening”
  • 6% said things are changing, but for the worse

These responses align with Tom’s observation that while recruitment transformation is underway, most organisations are still evolving rather than overhauling their hiring models. There is a clear need for modernisation, but change is incremental.

Where Do HR Professionals Turn for Support?
We also asked HR professionals where they go for advice and inspiration as they respond to fast-changing workforce expectations.

  • 85% value peer networks and events
  • 72% look to external expertise, including HR and recruitment consultancies
  • 40% rely on representative bodies such as Chambers of Commerce
  • 28% use research, reports and online learning
  • 32% are turning to AI-driven tools
  • Only 9% cited government-backed ‘capacity building’ initiatives

These results highlight the power of community, experience-sharing and trusted advisory support – including the value of sessions like the HR Hub itself.

A Generation in Flux: What Are Employers Seeing?
When asked about their perception of the new generation entering the workforce:

  • 60% said there is some evolution in mindset and attitude, but it’s not universal
  • 40% said there is definitely a different mindset and attitude
  • 0% said there’s been no real change

There’s widespread recognition of generational shifts in expectations, but also a caution against sweeping generalisations.

Are Organisations Ready for Evolving Worker Expectations?
Our poll revealed the reality of organisational response:

  • 9% have implemented specific changes following a wide-ranging review
  • 34% are reviewing their strategy but haven’t yet made changes
  • 53% are considering a review but haven’t started
  • Just 4% see no need for change

Tom emphasised the importance of not just reviewing but actively reshaping people strategies – with a specific focus on flexibility, purpose, and employee voice. The polling suggests a significant number of organisations are still in the early stages of this journey.

Would You Recommend a Career in HR?
We ended the session with a powerful question:

  • Would you recommend a career in HR to young people?
  • 91% said “Yes, absolutely”
  • 9% said “No, not really”

A clear endorsement of the HR profession – and a reminder of the vital role HR plays in shaping future workplaces and careers.

Final Thoughts
Tom’s presentation reminded us that HR is at the centre of business transformation – from navigating AI and workforce planning to embedding purpose and developing future-fit skills. The challenges are real, but so are the opportunities.

The May HR Hub served as both a snapshot of current sentiment and a springboard for future thinking. As always, we’re grateful to our speaker and attendees for making it such a valuable session.

Save the date: Our next HR Hub takes place on the 26th June which will be an Employment Law Update from RWK Goodman.
