Financial and Management Accounting Lead

Are you an experienced fully UK qualified accountant with demonstrable experience of managing both transactional and management accounting staff, within the public sector? If yes, this role could be for you.

Our business consultancy client are looking for a Financial and Management Accounting Lead to manage a team of 3 and work closely with the Head of Finance to oversee the Financial and Management accounting function.

Financial and Management Accounting Lead Responsibilities

This position will involve, but will not be limited to:

  • Working with the Head of Finance and other business stakeholders such as external auditors, to ensure the organisation’s finances are managed, advising on financial issues where necessary.
  • Financial accounting and management reporting, preparation of statutory accounts, VAT returns, monthly payroll, internet banking, credit card and staff expenses.
  • Overseeing and managing the team on performance management and development.
  • Leading and producing quarterly management accounts and ensuring transactional data, processing of purchase and sales invoices, creditors and debtor controls and recharge journals are accurately processed within a timely manner.
  • Reviewing internal controls with a view to ensuring that business processes are monitored and adhered to.

Financial and Management Accounting Lead Experience

To be successful in this position, you will be a fully qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA or equivalent) and have demonstrable exposure within a senior management accounting role including payroll management and experience of managing a team of transactional finance professionals. Experience working within the public sector is desirable as the ideal candidate must have a good understanding of the constraints within the public sector, however private sector/ commercial experience from within a fast-paced organisation with a high volume of invoices, purchase orders and expenses is essential. The key areas of skills will be excellent leadership and people management, and the ability to be diplomatic, resilient, and proactive. You will have excellent communication skills and a natural ability to build relationships quickly, and you will be able to positively influence stakeholders and provide advice, identify efficiencies and implement change where required. Experience using Xero accounting software and Pento Payroll would be a bonus but training will be provided. You must have experience of managing a monthly payroll. A capable individual, you will not mind working for a company which is going through a transitional stage and be a contributor to new ideas to improve overall business function and success. This position would suit someone that has worked in evolving environments, can work autonomously, and has an energetic, proactive and professional manner, able to handle a complex and dynamic environment and pressure.

Location

Our client’s office is located in Harwell. This is a full time, permanent position that offers hybrid working. You must be able to be in Harwell 3 days a week. Free onsite parking is allocated at the office.
