Head of Finance

This is a broad and varied finance opportunity for a professionally qualified Accountant, with several years post-qualified experience, to join a friendly and supportive organisation where you will have exposure to a wide range of responsibilities, collaborating across departments and working with some great people whilst managing a finance team. 

Head of Finance Responsibilities

The Head of Finance will enjoy working in a hands-on and people-facing role, managing the accounts process, payroll and finance team. The duties will include but not be limited to:

• Ensuring the financial systems meet the organisation's needs and that the financial policies and procedures are adhered to, to safeguard assets
• Budgeting - challenging and reviewing budget holder submissions and preparing timely forecasts
• Producing monthly cash flow forecasts and monitoring risks
• Ensuring compliance with VAT legislation, preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns and annual reporting on corporation tax, gift aid and P11Ds
• Working with Auditors to prepare accounts
• Processing investment income and transactions, donations, maintaining records and reconciling bank accounts
• Managing the work of the finance team including reviewing and approving payroll, overseeing billings process, coordinating month end procedures and overseeing monthly management accounts reports
• Completion of other Returns and Surverys

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday-Friday. You will be expected to be in the OXFORD office 5 days per week. This role will suit a candidate who enjoys being in the office working together with the team and across departments and being onsite to ask and answers questions to ensure the financial success of the organisation.

Head of Finance Experience

To be successful in this Head of Finance role, you will enjoy interacting with stakeholders and budget holders, and you must have experience of providing technical expertise within a complex environment, preferably within the independent school/ educational setting. You will have excellent people-facing communication skills with the gravitas, confidence and credibility to influence and advise for financial decision making and the success of the organisation. You must have solid and broad finance management experience across financial systems and controls, budgeting, cash management, VAT and Tax, Annual Accounts and Audits, Funds/ Investments, Debtors and fees, completion of Returns and Surveys, as well as team management experience.

This role requires a problem solver who is resourceful and not afraid to trial and error if needed, to find the appropriate solution, with the support from the Bursar and COO. You need to be collaborative, supportive and willing to roll your sleeves up and get involved across all departments with a proactive nature and a can do attitude. You will be leading a stable team who have been in post for a few years and it is a safe, friendly environment with a great group of people.

Location

Fully office based in Oxford. You must live locally/ commutable distance within the Oxfordshire area in order to be in the office as required. This role is for someone who enjoys working with a team together on-site. Close to public transport links and car parking is available on-site.
