This is a newly created role within the People team to support the People Advisor, filling in the knowledge gaps and supporting on more strategic level initiatives, and be the right hand person to the Head of HR, whilst working with the wider HR, Talent and L&D teams and partnering closely with the senior leadership team. This role is the strategic link between the people department and the rest of the business, aligning HR practices and overall business objectives.

This is a newly created role within the People team to support the People Advisor, filling in the knowledge gaps and supporting on more strategic level initiatives, and be the right hand person to the Head of HR, whilst working with the wider HR, Talent and L&D teams and partnering closely with the senior leadership team. This role is the strategic link between the people department and the rest of the business, aligning HR practices and overall business objectives.  

People Business Partner Responsibilities

The People Business Partner will assess and anticipate HR/ ER related needs, communicate proactively with managers, and present to senior leaders. The duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and implement HR/ ER strategies and initiatives that support business objectives
  • Provide guidance and support on complex employee relations issues to the People Advisor
  • Support managers in performance management processes
  • Assist in talent acquisition and recruitment processes
  • Conduct grievances and appeals ensuring that recommendations are based on in-depth findings, and advise on decisions
  • Create a career framework of levels and job families to create a structure of transparency and career progression
  • Support organisational change initiatives

The working hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm with a one-hour lunch break. The role is primarily office-based and the expectation is that you will work on-site the majority of the time but with some flexibility for home working depending on business needs and workload. I would expect this to look like 3 days in the office/ or out at different sites, 1 day at home and the remaining day either in the office or out at one of the sites as needed. You will be supporting across several site locations in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and the South Coast and so a drivers license is essential and you must be prepared to travel between sites as needed.

People Business Partner Experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally be CIPD qualified to Level 5 or above, and an experienced HRBP professional with prior experience of providing strategic as well as transactional HR and Business Partnering within an organisation with a minimum of 200 employees. (this client currently has approx. 850 employees and will increase when a new site opens in 2026). Ideally you will have worked within a manual industry sector such as waste management, manufacturing, logistics etc. 

You will have excellent attention to detail and a proven track record of delivering work on time and to a high quality. You will be reliable and happy to do whatever work is needed to support the HR team. The role is varied and so generalist HR experience is required, with knowledge and expertise across engagement and retention, restructures and TUPE, change management and employee relations, wellbeing, DE&I, performance management and succession planning, and policy development. You will do what is best for the brand and reputation in order to become an employer of choice, dealing with any employee relations issues early and mitigating risk and providing a good employee experience. 

You will have previous experience of guiding, advising, coaching and challenging in order for decision-making and be confident and commercial in your approach. You will have a 'can-do' attitude and strong understanding of HR best practice and UK employment law. Your values will include working as a team, customer-focus, empowering, quality driven and professional. 

You will be confident at presenting at varying levels and confident in professional challenge. 

You will have a solid work history and longevity in your career to date as this client has long-serving employees and are keen for somebody looking for a role they can stay and progress in. 

Location

The client is looking for a local candidate who lives in the Oxfordshire area and within an easy commuting distance of the South Oxfordshire office and who is able to travel between the sites depending on business needs.
